November 4, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Thank you for your understanding as we have been thrust into the challenges of COVID-19 in our school building. We are grateful for your support and understanding as we learn to navigate the ever changing environment. The educators and support staff at Raymond Junior High and Chase High School are committed to providing each student with the best education possible, it is our belief that students learn better when they have in-person access to school and teachers.

As the cases in Rice County have continued to increase we have to alter our course to meet the needs and goals we established to help our students be successful. The goal and the priority is to operate in a way that will allow us to keep kids onsite without sending them to remote learning again.

When students return on-site November 9, 2020 we will keep students in small groups together all day. The students will get their various classes from the appropriate content area teachers but will stay in the homeroom all day and not mix. Some of the assignments will be taught on the computer and some may be assigned through textbooks, but the work will be done in the homeroom.  Lunches will be brought to the classroom, students have the option of hot, salad, or a sack lunch but no outside food can be delivered during the school day. The daily schedule will look different, students will do their MTSS work at home prior to arriving at school at 10:00 AM. This will allow us to give teachers the required planning time at the same time each day. We will make a later bus route available for students that need it.

The plan is to do this for a short period of time until November 24, 2020. During the week of November 24, discussion and guidance from the Rice County Health Department will determine if we can resume classes as prior to remote learning.  This way we can avoid remote learning for most students. This style of instruction would become our fallback for any future outbreaks, as we work to avoid shutting down and sending the entire building to remote learning.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be conducted by phone or video call. Students are working hard to create their student led presentation. Hard copies of the progress report and teacher report will be sent to you by mail.

Warm Regards,

Kylee McDonald

Raymond Junior High & Chase High School Principal

Moving Forward under Covid-19

Your safety and the safety of staff is the priority at this time. All of the precautions and rules are to protect you from exposure to COVID-19 and to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Our goal is to slowly move back to regular classes starting with what we are referring to as the Facilitator Model. If it all goes well and we have no more outbreaks we will return to the Cohort model we were in at the beginning of the year.  The following rules give us the best chance for success in this, but also makes it possible to continue with Winter Sports.

Classes will be delivered online as they were in the spring when all of this began. However you will be in school, meeting in smaller groups with a teacher that can help lead you through the assignments, rather than being completely on your own. This will limit the amount of germs spread and if another outbreak happens the ones exposed can be traced and only those who are in direct contact would go on quarantine rather than everyone.

  1. You will be allowed to use earbuds to control the noise and distractions from classmates being in different classes and watching videos.
  2. We will sanitize the classroom and hands every hour.
  3. We will have scheduled bathroom breaks and that is the ONLY time we will leave the classroom. The teacher in the room will escort students to the restroom. The teacher will also use the restroom at this time only. The schedule will be strictly enforced to ensure that the restrooms are cleaned and sanitized between EVERY use.
  4. There will be no mask breaks due to germ spread, they MUST be worn appropriately at all times. This means covering both the nose and the mouth; not worn under the nose and definitely not as a chin strap.
  5. Each student will be assigned to a single classroom from 10 am-3:30 pm
  6. Breakfast and Lunch will be brought to our classroom everyday-no outside food allowed unless it is brought with you when you come at 10 am. We will take breakfast and lunch meal counts before you leave school the day before, so that the lunchroom has an accurate count. Hot lunch, salad bar, sack lunch brought in at 10 am, or no lunch, are your only choices. NO OUTSIDE FOOD IS DELIVERED DURING THE DAY!
  7. We will have a schedule to follow for class work each day
  8. You will be responsible from 8-10 am to read for Reading Counts and a log sheet will be provided in your MTSS classroom folder. This must be filled out daily. Two books must be read and tested during this 2nd nine weeks, beginning on November 9th.  MTSS math and Social Skill assignments will also be included in your folder and must be completed during that time period.. If you finish a book, you will be allowed to get another one by contacting either your English teacher or Kim by email. These are the only ones that you can get books from. Your homeroom teacher is not responsible for getting you a book.

SCHOOL RULES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:

The following rules have been implemented in order to make our school as safe as possible for students and staff. COVID-19 has invaded our communities and we feel it is necessary to be as proactive as possible to enable us to have at least a semblance of in person classes as well as being able to participate in activities and sports. They will last as long as it is deemed necessary.

  • Entering the school
  • Every student will enter through their assigned door.
  • Everyone will have their temperature taken in the classroom.
  • Once in the building you will report to your designated room for the day.
    • If you arrive before 10 am you will have an assigned seat in the old gym to work on MTSS assignments.  There will be NO movement during this time.
      • Take everything with you to the room. There will be no need for lockers. Take everything to your classroom.
      • No one will be allowed out of the classroom.

  • Your Mask is your best form of defense -- It will stay in place at all times.
  • Wear masks properly so it covers your nose and mouth at all times.
  • Regular use of hand sanitizer will also be implemented.

  •  Bathroom Breaks -- Bathroom breaks will be scheduled throughout the day. These breaks will be no longer than 5 minutes due to the need to thoroughly clean the restrooms between scheduled times. Everyone WILL follow this schedule exactly with no other breaks allowed. Therefore, it is necessary that the breaks are used in the manner for which they are meant.  USE THE RESTROOM DURING THE SCHEDULED TIME. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

  • Breakfast and Lunch will be served in your classroom -- Lunch and Breakfast counts will be taken at the end of the day for the following day. You may sign up for sack lunches, salad or hot. The only outside food is in the sack lunch which was brought with you when you enter school at 10 am and it can only be eaten at lunch time. (NO OUTSIDE FOOD WILL BE DELIVERED TO THE SCHOOL)

  • Class times have changed, everyone is to be in school from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. This is for all who are attending in person as well as those who have previously signed up for online. (Make sure to be on time and prepared.)
  • A schedule will be provided for the 10 to 3:30 timeframe.
  • There will NOT be time after 10 am for MTSS assignments.

Rules concerning phones have not changed, they are NOT to be out at any time other than lunch. Make sure and keep them put away, teachers will be collecting them if you can’t follow the rules.
