Final Home Game, Lasting Memories: 8th Grade Parents’ Night

by Layd’n Hinderliter

On January 23, 2026, Raymond Junior High held a special 8th Grade Parents’ Night to honor the basketball players and their families. This evening marked the final home game for these Raymond Bulldogs students before they move on to high school, and they made it a memorable one. The stands were filled with proud parents cheering on their kids as they took the court one last time in their junior high jerseys. The energy was high, and every player gave their best effort, showing the heart and teamwork that defined their season.

As part of the evening, each 8th-grade player was recognized alongside their parents. For the girls’ team, Kinsley and Chloe Crawford were honored with their parents, Megan and Bill Crawford. Carsen Rush was recognized with her parents, Amie Miller and Rusty Rush, while Kenya Campuzano was celebrated with her mother, Linda Campuzano.

On the boys’ side, Michael Weaver was honored with his parents, Amber and Donnie Weaver, and Aiden Hunter was recognized with his parents, Amanda and Brandon Hunter. Manuel Torres was supported by his older brother, Santiago Torres. Jessie Villanueva was recognized with his mother, Ciera Villanueva, and Elvis Gomez was supported by his mother, Carolina Gomez.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our 8th graders during their final home game at Raymond Junior High. We look forward to cheering them on as they continue their basketball journeys in high school.

Staff Spotlight

by Mischa K.

Mr Ferris originally wanted to get his degree to become an art teacher. He eventually realized that he couldn’t skip classes, can’t do something, and not complete it, or just not turn in the homework. So sooner or later, he flunked out. He then decided that he wasn’t ready for college just yet, so he switched from going to college to working. He continued working for 2 years, working with a forklift, and after a two-year gap period, he chose to return to college. He was going to work and school full-time. For work, he was a custodian and was helping with caregiving for a young disabled girl. He would help her get up in the mornings, take her to school, and then he would head to work shortly after. He continued that for 4 years. He started being a student teacher in Ark City. Mr. Ferris had very good grades during this time period. HE had all A’s, though he was very busy constantly.

He still kept up with his grades. He had graduated at 27 years old. He put his application out, and sooner or later, Dr. McDonald found his application. They had the interview right before summer, and Mr. Ferris got to see the school. He had to drive just about 2 hours to get to Chase; he was even an hour early to his interview, and he was so nervous. He had said that when he stepped onto campus, he had already felt at home and could tell that the kids were very energetic. He had received the call that Dr. McDonald would like him to serve as the ELA teacher. He very quickly said that he would take the job. Mr. Ferris’s favorite part of working in Chase High School is the students and how much they surprise him. He is taking LETR’s literacy course and the Science of Reading.

Fiction Can Be Fun

Tony & John Go to Paris

by Leland Rice

Tony and John traveled to Paris in search of their mole friend, Gary. As soon as they arrived, they were excited by the new smells and scenery. The first thing they noticed was the Eiffel Tower because of its incredible height. They looked at each other and shared a mischievous grin.

John turned to Tony and said, “I bet I could get to the top first.” Those words started a race. Both Tony and John ran toward the tower. Tony began climbing the structure, while John used his brain instead of his muscles. He hopped into the elevator and rode it all the way up. John reached the top in a jiff, but he had to wait a long time for Tony to arrive.

When Tony finally made it to the top, the two of them looked out over the city, enjoying the view from above. Suddenly, they spotted their friend Gary down below. They shot a zipline toward him, but it went off course and flew into either the Louvre or the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, nailing the Mona Lisa right in the forehead. This became yet another crime they had committed.

The alarms went off, and when Tony and John ziplined into the building, they were caught by a security guard and taken to prison. While they were there, their friend Gary dug a hole for them to escape through. The tunnel led all the way back to their home, and they were finally free.

Honor Roll

Most of the grade school students earned bronze and silver certificates for being on time to class and missing no more than one to two days of school. Several grade schoolers had perfect attendance and received higher-level certificates in recognition of their achievement.

At the high school level, most students received bronze certificates. Only a select few earned silver certificates for excellent attendance, strong grades, and consistently staying on top of their schoolwork. One student, Carson Rush, received a gold certificate for earning straight A’s in every class and maintaining perfect attendance.

C-H-S Cheerleaders Bring Energy and Spirit to Every Game

by Humberton Rincon

“C-H-S,” the cheerleaders, have played a big role in entertaining the crowd and getting fans pumped up during games. The six cheerleaders are Alyssa, Addison, Emmabelle, Akira, Mischa, and Natalie. The crowd appreciates them for keeping the energy high and getting everyone up and moving throughout each game.

The cheerleaders have been a strong support all year under head coach Sarah Staten. According to Coach Staten, the ladies have improved in being more assertive and vocal during games, and they have grown tremendously in their confidence and abilities. Staten shared that her favorite cheers are the ones where she gets to come up with the actions.

The squad is hoping to return to the Kansas Shrine Bowl in the summer of 2026. Coach Staten is also hoping to see more girls try out next season to increase the squad to eight cheerleaders.
